The Tudor Dance Group

General Info

Company name: The Tudor Dance Group

Description: We are a group of enthusiasts brought together by our love of music, dancing and costume of past centuries. Established in 1985 we are a non profit making organisation whose aim is to promote and preserve the the knowledge of early dance. Using published research, based on original source material we perform mainly 16th century court and country dances from England and the Continent, together with giving displays of the contemporary crafts and social activities of the times. We appear at many events throughout the Southwest including National Trust properties, living history re-enactment, fetes, festivals, pageants, parades and weddings. The group also gives workshops to local schools linking in with the National Curriculum. Our performing repertoire of dance and parade which has been built up over the many years the group has been in existence also extends to the Mediaeval, Stuart and Victorian periods. The costumes, accessories and props we use are as authentic as possible. We hold costume workshops for practical advice where members are helped to design and make their own costumes. We can also lend costumes to help you get started.
